前言

陈庆庆是九十年代中期女性主义艺术高潮中的代表人物,她的作品以装置为主,却又涉猎到绘画、陶瓷、雕塑、甚至行为艺术,而不同于其他人的是,她的作品中,既有受过西方文化熏陶的独立的女性主义视角,又有她与生俱来的深入骨髓的东方文化的智慧、宽容与厚重,她说:一件作品,应该带着艺术家自己的体温,不是市场的铜臭!

最初使她声誉鹊起的丝麻编织的衣服,使陈庆庆成为在九十年代中后期对艺术语言的前卫性实验的少数实践者之一。

她的丝麻编制的衣服在纺织纤维的语言前卫性上具有杰出的开拓性,蔴材料的表达,既有强烈的东方色彩,又极具女性特质,丝丝缠绵、感性、柔蜜,朦胧中带着东方女性的坚韧。但是它们绝不仅仅是一个简单意义上的自然材料制作的女红作品。艺术家正是用这些有着各个朝代服饰符号特征的《蔴衣》作品,传达出了自己对民族历史文化的深情的追思和浓重的人文情结,我有时甚至觉得,好像庆庆是在用自己的艺术方式与我们的祖先对话,又试图破天荒的把我们的现代人文信息传达给我们的先人。

可贵的是,艺术家并不满足于她在蔴衣作品方面的成就,她的行为艺术语言的实验性, 也同样是在尖利的批判中向往着无限的美好。

庆庆的现成品装置是纯粹的,乍看起来,她取用了人们日常生活中一切可能的材料,从一个小树枝,一块小木片,到年轻时用过的耳环,旧笔记本,晾衣夹…...金木水火土,皆有可能,艺术家就像有着点石成金的巫术,用这些生活中最不起眼的日常元素,讲述着她的故事,她的爱情,她的生命,甚至从女人角度对历史,死亡和未来的思考,都在她的装置中娓娓道来…...

高度的语言实验性,智慧和鬼魅的语言风格,使她的装置的“微景观”具有的神秘主义视觉在中国当代艺术中也是少见的,她让现成品装置,这种本来是西方人的艺术方式,却在讲述着东方人的故事,而它们所表达的不仅是一个艺术家个人的思想历程,它们就像是一些可以解读历史的人文景观,历历在目的讲述着我们这个时代的故事。

Preface

Chen Qingqing is a representative figure in the climax of feminist art in the mid-1990s. Most of her works are installations. There are also paintings, pottery, sculptures and even performance art. What makes her standing out is that Chen Qingqing possesses the independent feminist perspective as a result of the influence of Western culture, and at the same time the Oriental wisdom, tolerance and dignity that is innate in her. To quote the artist's own words: an artwork should carry the warmth of the artist, not the stink of the money from the market!

Chen earned her name with the series of linen-braided garments. She was one of the few practitioners of avant-garde experiments on art language in the middle and late 1990s.

The linen garment series blazed new trail in the avant-garde experimental language of textile fibers. The hemp as a fiber textile conveys both strong Oriental characteristics and allegory to femininity. It is lingering, sensual and soft, implicit yet tenacious, just like the Oriental females. These garments are far more than simple needlework out of natural materials. They bear the apparel styles of various dynasties in China. The artist conveys through such arrangement her deep feeling for the national history and culture and a strong humanistic complex. Sometimes I even feel as if Qingqing is conversing with our ancestors through her art. She not only listens but also tries to communicate our modern humanistic messages to our ancestors.

What is more valuable is that Chen Qingqing is not content with her success with the garment series. The experimentality of her performance art language, though taking the form of harsh criticism, is also aspiring to the infinite beauty.

The installations with ready-made objects are very pure. At the first glance we see all kinds of objects in everyday life: a small twig, a piece of wood chip, earrings from the youth, old notebooks, clothes pins and so on. All elements in nature and life seem acceptable. The artist is like a Wizard that is turning ordinary objects into gems. These jewels tell stories about her love, her life and even her thoughts on history, death and the future from the perspective of a female. All of these stories are told in her installations...

Her language is highly experimental. Her wisdom and the spiritual language styles give the “micro landscape” of her installations a mystic visual presentation which is rare in Chinese contemporary art. She uses ready-made objects to create her installations, borrowing a type of Western art to tell the story of people from the East. What these works are conveying is not only the personal spiritual journey of an artist. They are like some humanistic landscapes that serve as illustrations of history, vividly telling the stories of our times.

Award

Fiber works were awarded the two prize of the Vienna forest textile art festival in Austria in 1998.

The "copy of unearthed cultural relics - Han" was appraised in 2016 by the Annual Meeting of Chinese Critics as one of the thirty most influential works in the thirty years of installation art in China.

Works being collected by China National Museum, Beijing Today Art Museum,Yuan Art Museum, New York New Museum and Museum National D’Histoire Naturelle Musee DE L’HOMME in Palais and  many Art collectors in the world collection, and have been exhibition in international Art Fairs held by different Countries.
